I installed Mac OS X Server 10.6 from a compressed.dmg image so you are mistaken in your assumption that VMware Fusion cannot handle.dmg images. As you might know that VMware Fusion does not accept Apple disk image (.dmg) format. I wondered how you created the disk image, and installed Mac OS X Server from the disk image.
